3 Ways to Connect With Your Employees During COVID-19

Now more than ever, companies are trying to find ways to stay connected with their employees while working from home. We are consistently looking for ways to keep our team engaged, connected and excited about what is to come next for Belmar. We have identified 3 ways to stay connected through socially distant events, virtual events and WFH company packages.

Socially Distant Events

Every month, Belmar hosts company-wide events, while following the BC Health Ministry COVID-19 protocols. In early September, we hosted a boating event to get our employees together, interacting with some of our new hires and enjoying the sunshine while it lasted. By hosting interactive socially distant events, we are able to reduce the feeling of isolation that may come with working from home.

Virtual Events

During work hours, Belmar hosts small virtual socials on Zoom. These virtual events allow team members to take a break from work and just relax, while making jokes and competing with one another for a big prize or just bragging rights. Recently, we hosted a trivia game, testing everyone’s expertise on the film industry. Having interactive activities during work hours, is also another way to reduce the potential feeling of isolation.

WFH Company Packages

At Belmar, we place a large emphasis on employee mental health. Employees should feel like their work, time and effort is valued. Another way we connect with our employees is through providing WFH company packages that consist of company swag like hoodies, hats, or mugs. After all, who doesn’t like getting a package delivered to their front door. Inside these boxes, one of our employees might also find a fun team activity. Our most recent team activity had us sending out small Lego kits to the team for a building competition.

We put our people at the forefront of our business and consistently look for ways to give back. While we definitely aren’t the only company who does these things, we hope these 3 tips will give you some inspiration on how to connect with your employees.

FAQ Section

What are effective ways to keep employees connected while working from home?
Companies can keep employees connected through socially distant outdoor events, virtual team activities, and curated work-from-home packages. These touchpoints help reduce isolation, strengthen culture, and remind employees they are valued—even while remote.

Why are virtual events important for remote teams?
Virtual events provide a break from work, boost mental wellbeing, and give remote employees a chance to bond with teammates. Activities like trivia, games, or casual Zoom socials support stronger communication and improve motivation during remote work.

Do socially distant events still improve employee engagement?
Yes. Safe, socially distant events offer in-person interaction while respecting public health guidelines. Even simple activities—like outdoor meetups or group experiences—help new hires feel included and keep company culture alive.

What should be included in a work-from-home company package?
A WFH package can include company swag such as hoodies, hats, mugs, snacks, gift cards, or small team-building activities (like Lego build competitions). These packages boost morale and help employees feel appreciated and connected.

How can companies support employee mental health during remote work?
Regular check-ins, fun virtual socials, wellness-focused activities, and thoughtful appreciation packages help employees feel seen and supported. Clear communication and inclusive culture initiatives play a key role in reducing stress and isolation.
